In this week鈥檚 Postcard, Principal Perry explores the concept of critical hope, inspired by conversations from our Nowruz celebration and the thoughtful reflections of our students.
At the end of last week, the Junior Choir, Senior Choir, and Chamber Choir all attended and performed at the Ontario Vocal Festival. Each choir performed a selection of music, received feedback from a panel of adjudicators, and participated in clinics to refine their pieces. 馃幎
We are excited to share that their hard work and musicality have been recognized with an invitation to MusicFest Nationals in May for all three choirs!
In Tuesday鈥檚 assembly, Prefects went head鈥憈o鈥慼ead with House Heads in a high鈥憇takes blender challenge that tested knowledge, luck, and a strong stomach! 明星黑料 staff filled out a survey the week before, and their answers became multiple鈥慶hoice questions for the teams to guess.
鉁� Correct answer? A mystery good ingredient went into your blender.
鉂� Wrong answer? A mystery bad ingredient joined the mix.
And yes: no matter what, everyone had to blend it鈥� and drink it.
The less鈥憈han鈥慳ppealing ingredients included hot sauce, mustard, ranch dressing, pickle juice, teriyaki sauce, mayonnaise, soy sauce, and ketchup. The crowd鈥檚 reaction to pickle juice alone said everything! 馃槀
Thankfully, there were some sweeter additions as well, including raspberries, orange juice, blueberries, and frozen fruit.
Win or lose, both teams proved they were willing to fully commit for the sake of school spirit!

The Grade 7s and 8s wasted no time turning April Fools鈥� Day into a full鈥憇chool spectacle 鈥� from plastic mice popping out of hiding spots to a classroom completely transformed with paper cranes.
Well played, Grade 7s and 8s. Well played. 馃憦
Last week, we learned about Nowruz as a community in a full school assembly led by a group of students from across the grades. We learned more about the ways the Persian New Year is celebrated, and the meaningful traditions that recognize the arrival of spring.馃
The student presenters introduced everyone to the Haft Seen Table; seven symbolic items that all begin with the letter 鈥楽.鈥� The speakers highlighted familiar Nowruz items, including hyacinth (sonbol), coins (sekkeh), coloured eggs, candles, and a mirror, describing how each one represents themes of renewal, good fortune, and hope. Several students took the stage to share their own experiences celebrating Nowruz, speaking about their favourite dishes and traditions, the excitement of receiving Eidi (a traditional gift given by elders to younger relatives), and how the holiday helps them stay connected to their heritage and families.
The assembly concluded with a reading of a poem by Hafez in Farsi, a thoughtful way to honour the celebration!
Summer might actually arrive one of these days 鈥� why not plan to spend some of it with 明星黑料! The Academic Communication Essentials course is one of the exciting 明星黑料-developed programs we鈥檙e offering this year. 馃摎
Designed for students heading into Grades 8, 9, or 10, this course helps build the strong communication habits that make a real difference in high school and beyond. Throughout the program, students will brush up on grammar, learn how to make their writing clearer and more confident, and pick up strategies for tackling new vocabulary and tougher texts. They鈥檒l also get lots of guided practice in building stronger arguments and finding their own writing style, helping to make writing a tool for their own self-expression. Plus, there are plenty of chances to develop speaking and presentation skills through fun, collaborative activities.

Last month, the Primary and Junior Choirs sang at the Kiwanis Music Festival. They loved listening to other school groups, learning from the adjudicator, and even performing an original 明星黑料 composition! Their love for singing, dedication, creativity, and perseverance earned them two platinum awards 鈥� as well as the opportunity for both choirs to record for OMFA Provincials, a virtual invitation-only festival. Congrats to our young 明星黑料 singers! 馃幎
